The Division Clinical Neurosciences (Head: Prof. Dr. U. Bingel) of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Essen seeking a

Postdoc in Brain Imaging with Focus on Pain and Placebo Research (m/f/d)

(E13 TV-L / fixed-term position)

The Employment is starting in January 2020 and initially for a limited period. An extension might be possible according to the maximum employment duration as given by laws regarding scientific fixed-term contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). On basis of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or the Teilzeit- und Befristungsgesetz the duration of the contract depends on the personal requirements. The pay grade classification depends on the personal and collective legal requirements.

We are seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position in brain imaging. You will investigate cognitive modulators of pain and analgesia in health and chronic pain using function-al/anatomical magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI/MRI) and pharmacological interventions. We offer excellent research opportunities with 3 T MR and PET-MR at the University Duisburg-Essen and ultra-high-field MR (7T) at the Erwin L. Hahn Institute (ELH) and access to large-scale retrospective imag-ing data.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience or related fields and documented his / her research experience with publications in peer-reviewed journals. Expertise in designing experimental behavioral, pharmacological and neuroimaging studies, in brain imaging (fMRI/MRI, PET-MR) and related software (SPM, FSL or nipype) and a profound knowledge of statis-tics and proficiency in at least one programming language (Matlab, R, python, etc.) are mandatory. Fluency in English is obligatory. German language skills are preferable. The applicant is expected to supervise doctoral students. The possibility of habilitation is given.
